Roman rectangular linen tunic, made from linen which has been dyed red using madder. Entirely hand-sewn using locally-sourced linen thread in a double running-stitch and the seams are flat-felled in the Roman fashion and secured with an overcast stitch.
Head hole has been purposely enlarged so as to be worn with one shoulder dropped off the arm to facilitate better movement during work or in hot weather. It is pulled up and closed in the back via a knot tied at the neck. Both of these styles are shown in period artwork.
