Roman rectangular wool tunic, made from wool which has been dyed red. Entirely hand-sewn using locally-sourced wool thread in a double running-stitch and the seams are flat-felled in the Roman fashion and secured with an overcast stitch.
The client specified a wool sensitivity, so I opted for a very soft fulled 2/1 twill. It's very cozy and warm, however, it should be noted the commonality of fulled wool for Roman tunics is speculative, however, fulleries have been noted in areas such as Pompeii, as well as Rome itself, and it is highly likely the heavier fulled wool tunics were a staple of Roman military fashion, especially for men serving in colder climates such as Western and Norther Europe during the winter months.
